The Truman Readers Award Program is a state wide children’s choice reading program for students in sixth-eighth grades. It is sponsored by the Missouri Association of School Librarians. Each year there is a new list of 12 quality chapter books that have been selected by teachers and librarians from around the state. The students must read or listen to at least four books from the list in order to be able to vote for their favorite book.
The MSB Library Media Center works with Wolfner Library for the Blind to provide as many of these books as possible in recorded formats for Missouri children to read.
Thousands of children around Missouri participate in this program each year. Here at MSB, those students who participate are invited to attend the St. Louis Storytelling Festival. Participants also receive a certificate of recognition from the Missouri Association of School Librarians. The author of the book which receives the most votes statewide receives a special award.
